Dec 2010 - The Moment of Truth - The Report of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform that outlines a sweeping plan to cut costs in an effort to get the U.S.'s ailing economy back to fiscal health.

It proposes to arrest the deficit by capping discretionary federal spending through 2020, nearly freezing the Pentagon’s budget, and rising the age for full Social Security benefits. On the revenue side, it proposes to increase the federal tax on gasoline by 15 cents, and eliminate the child tax credit, the mortgage interest deduction, and the deduction claimed by employers who provide health insurance, while reducing income-tax rates overall.

President Obama established the Commission by Executive Order on February 18, 2010.
